===== M2M 2016 ===== [[http://www.jerichooutrigger.com/races2016/m2m.html|results]] **allipp01** \\ 04/16/16 #18986 I just saw on Facebook the first four places for Maui to Molokai 1) Zsolt\\ 2) Mark Anderson\\ 3) Jimmy Austin (OC-1)\\ 4) Carter Johnson No more results posted yet. **allipp01** \\ 04/16/16 #18987 Joost 3:04.....65th place. **Reivers Dustin** \\ 04/16/16 #18991 Looks like Joost was 10th or 11th surfski to finish. Maybe 15 surfski's in the race. OC boats rocked. One surfski shows relay team. Wonder how that works? Jimmy Austin shows paddling an OC-1, finished 20 sec ahead of Carter (whoa - might be error in classification). Especially since Carter says he finished 4th. (shows 3rd) Zsolt: 2:31\\ Anderson: 2:31\\ Carter: 2:36\\ Several Assies and locals on Surfskis\\ Joost: 3:04 (third in his age group) 178 boats finished. I see a 4:43 for slower finisher. Looking at the incredible OC times and some comments it was surf-riders advantage. I'm liking the M2M over the Molokai Challenge from what little I know. Only problem I have is zero ocean swell exposure. Don't see it in my future either. rd **Larry Bussinger** \\ 04/16/16 #18992 Reivers. Assies is spelled ass's, but I think you mean Aussies. Larry B **Reivers Dustin** 04/17/16 #18993 oh great typo. I just dissed a whole nation of rugged, athletic type peoples. This is like the Gary Larson cartoon where it shows two deer in the woods - one has a big target on his side. The other is saying to him, "Bummer of a birthmark there Fred." rd **J.N. Zeegers** \\ 04/17/16 #18997 Hey gang,\\ I must say the M2M race has to be one of the most deceptive races I have ever done. About 4 miles after the start, Zolt and company were off a ways to my right taking a very northerly route, while the bulk of people doing a southerly one. I should say that before the start, there's chatter about what lines to take, and everyone has their reasons. At the 4 mile, I decided to start a somewhat southerly route by stairstepping my way down the waves. Great fun by the way. As I entered the channel between Molokai and Lanai, I was passing a lot of the relay teams and women's oc1's that started before us. So far I was doing well, and didn't have any reason to think otherwise. My average speed over the entire course was just around 9 mph, which seemed good to me. It wasn't until i veered inland towards the finish buoy where I saw hordes of paddlers who had hugged the Molokai shoreline finish ahead of me, that I realized I had screwed up the course by staying too far out. Evidently, there's a strong longshore current, that along with the same windwards waves propelled them very well.\\ All in all, in spite of my placement, I paddled well, and had loads of fun riding some of the most incredible waves I have ever been in.
