Bob McBeath and Dan Cantrell are into the 3rd day of the Yukon River Quest, and as of the last update they're in 13th overall (out of 90 teams), 2nd in their class (men's tandem canoe).
The top 3 spots are voyageur canoes, and there's a very good chance that the leaders, Team Kisseynew, will break David and I's course record AND break the elusive 40-hour barrier. They had a 31 minute lead over our 2006 time coming into Kirkman Creek, the 2nd mandatory layover.
Derek Crook and his partner Pauline Frost-Hanberg are in 36th place, and our Bay Area friend Ken Brunton, paddling his solo kayak, is right behind them in 37th.
Watch for the leaders to cross the finish line sometime around 2 p.m. today, www.yukonriverquest.com.

Locals Bob McBeath and Dan Cantrell finished the ‘Quest 2nd place in their class, in a time of 48 hours 41 minutes! HUGE accomplishment! Overall, they finished 15th out of 90 (+-) boats, including a record number of voyageur canoes (15!).
Team Kisseynew held onto their lead over the Texans and crushed the course record by over an hour, finishing in 39 hours 32 minutes! Other records that fell include men’s solo kayak and mixed canoe class. Heather’s solo women’s record still stands (nearest time this year was 11+ hours off), as well as our mixed tandem kayak record. Nonetheless, it was a HUGE year of raising the bar, and the ultra bug is starting to buzz again!!!
