Pressure Gradients
Only works on predominantly south winds.
- Get EastSound - Arlington Pressure Gradient for South Wind
- Method 1 to get Pressure Gradient website was down for a bit but seem ok now* Step 1 Open this gradient page
- Step 2 Read the cell in the Past Hour column and Arlington-Eastsound row
If there is a number in the cell (sometimes it is empty) then interpret the number below on this page under “Pressure Gradient Bellingham Bay Wind Predictor”
- Method 2 to get Pressure Gradient
- Step 1 Open NOAA Hourly Roundup Seattle ( XXX Old NOAA Hourly Roundup Seattle XXX - Obsolete web address )
- Step 2 Subtract EastSound (Orcas Is.) pressure from Arlington pressure to derive the pressure gradient.
Pressure Gradient Bellingham Bay South Wind Predictor
- The numbers below are generalities at best but give a sense of how the gradient equates to the next hour of wind. - 0.01 - 0.02 = Sub 10 mph wind - 0.03 - 0.04 = 10 - 15 mph wind - 0.05 - 0.06 = 15 - 25 mph wind - 0.07 - 0.10 = 25 - 30 mph wind - 0.11 - 0.12 = 30+ mph wind - Larger numbers can occasionally mean a squall is on the way which usually kills the wind
