Smaller than ideal conditions at de fuca, but still a fun well run event with small bumps to chase.\\ Smaller than ideal conditions at de fuca, but still a fun well run event with small bumps to chase.\\

-Big thank you to the Bellingham crew – Heather, Brandon, DJ, Eric G, Alan L, Kevin O, John R, and mystical sea kayaker Jamie Klein from Deming – for coming out on a Sunday to support the De Fuca Downwind. Results will be posted by tomorrow. Nice win by Gabe Newton, holding off Greg Barton at the finish for a 4-second win after 9 miles.  Thanks for a great race, Bill. Sorry we took off before awards… we had some hungry kids and a c-c-cold mama and papa! J Awesome event, thanks to all the volunteers too.  +Hi racers, volunteers, and sponsors…
 +
+Sorry for the week it has taken to get this out, post- De Fuca Downwind. I wanted to get everything out at once – the final results, plus the verified Race For Your Life final standings and award winners, and of course the post-race survey on surveymonkey.com.
 +
+Starting with the survey… whether you made it to the Downwind this year or not, please take a minute to answer nine simple questions, for your organizers and for the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce. We’re all very interested in your feedback. Be sure to let us know if you’re coming back to the Peninsula for the Tall in the Saddle Paddle on September 2nd.
 +
+Congrats to Downwind winner Gabe Newton, who battled Greg Barton all the way down the course and took a 4-second victory after nine grueling miles, in an official time of 1:04:19.  Kim Allen, in that striking blue IR dry top that I’ve followed in many a race, finished the course as the Fastest Lady of the day. There’s a link to all the results from the Downwind page, right here. While you’re there, take a look at Inge Watson’s pics… please repost with her permission only. Lovin’ the coincidental opening day of King season, hence the smiling fisherman in the first pic. Enjoy!
 +
+The final event of the Race For Your Life series saw a few exciting switches in position, featuring Gabe overtaking Jamie Klein for the top men’s spot. Kim finished a solid second on the women’s side, to Minnie Fontenelle’s insurmountable finish in spite of her missing the race. Full results for the 5-race series are here. Nice work everyone! And thanks to Canoe & Kayak Magazine, Brandon & Heather Nelson, Paddling Dynamics and Ruby Creek Boathouse, the final pot was $1,825!! – meaning the two top points winners received $400 each, and top ten men and women all received cash awards. Checks are going out tomorrow.
 +
+See you on the water soon – at the Tall in the Saddle Paddle or sooner… Pilgrim!
