-Yesterday I decided to try "real" water paddling. Surfers who think this is WARM water have known about this spot for years, Hobucks Beach. I would venture to guess that I might be one of the few to attempt to paddle out through the break in a surfski here. So there I was, standing on this isolated 2 miles of beach, just me and the kelp, overcast sky, 10 mph on shore breeze, new Huki Special in one hand and my emergency VHF in the other, contemplating how far China was and for some stupid reason...humming the Jaws theme song. Well, I timed a couple of waves jumped on my boat and headed out to sea. I got slapped silly and went about 10 feet into the air with my ski off the next three waves as I paddled out but suddenly I found my self out in the swells....pretty cool. I paddled out about a half mile and turned back to the beach and paddled like stink....the first big swell caught me and it felt like someone took a hand and shoved the boat as hard as you could forward..the next thing you know it felt like I going about sixty, sorry the GPS stayed at home, and I had to turn and brace out or I was going to be sitting in the parking lot spitting out gravel and salt water!  I did this about ten more times, a lot of the swells were just moving way too fast and the only way to catch them would be a mix of Joost and half porpoise. The Special was amazing.....that boat lit out like you wouldn't believe....never burried the bow and or broached. You could feel and hear the swells go by you! The next phase was to get back to "solid land." You could pick a spot where the waves weren't breaking so hard so you hopefully didn't multiply the number of surfski "pieces" that you started out with.....it was exciting, like the Chuckanut Wall times 5 for 10 seconds with a jet liner landing right behind you....the breakers were loud, and i made sure that I disconnected my leash so I wouldn't get steam rolled by my boat....I actually landed just fine jumped out of the surf and immediately did my best "Castaway" immitation and walked up the beach glad to be alive, no teeth marks, only one boat and actually wiling to try it again later this week.......Look up Hobucks Beach Resort and it should show you the location where I am staying for work and playing after. Maybe a road trip for a bunch of us...the cabins are right on the water and three of them sleep seven or the others sleep four!+Yesterday I decided to try "real" water paddling. -Hobucks is awesome.  I used to make that trek to surf quite often. Back when I was willing to drive 6 hours for waves.  It's been a few years.  Let me know if you want to go again... I would like to take my stand up paddle board out in those swells, plus it's safer with two!\\+Hobucks is awesome.
