Sand Point race

It was long. Good turn out, but thank goodness none of my arch rivals made it. It was a fast, flat race. I averaged 6.3mph which is 'way above average'. Ernie ran a tight race with on-time start and very crisp post race times and awards. Fun to see some Seattle folks.

Also: OSU beavers basketball!!! They made it into the 'elite eight'. crazy man.

Yesterday I decided to go on a cruise in my white pedal boat and maybe see the folks in the PNWORCA race. For some reason I thought the race was starting at Agua Verde and going to include Lakes Union and Washington, so I put in at the Sunnyside boat ramp. I passed one of those hot tub boats and nearly a dozen rowing shells and headed to Agua Verde.

It was rather quiet at the would-be launch park at 10:30 AM (with the race starting at 11), so I consulted the web site again – and saw the start was at Sand Point. Oops!

A large group of rowing 8's were just finishing a regatta through the Montlake Cut, so after waiting for them to clear out I headed towards Sand Point and eventually ran into the PNWORCA racers. Greg Barton was far out in front of second place, with a roughly equal distance from second place to third and the rest of the field.

After taking too many photos I returned through the Cut to the Aurora Bridge, cruising around the area and finally running into Vadim Kin before returning to the boat ramp. Overall I pedaled 10+ miles on the water and had a great time!

Oh, yes - photos can be found on my web site at

It was great to see the “Cadence” running loose in Lk Washington. Nice bonus to have these photo's of the race. (Backstory - Michael had loaned me this peddle-craft some years ago when I had blown some body part up and could not paddle. It was a hoot. There's just room for two so Hilde and I did a picnic paddle while I was in recovery.)

I know you get good cred for the photos Michael. Still, it just amazes me that you can go through all these shots, sort, delete the junk and get them out in one day. Just astounding. Sound rowers has an unparalleled body of documentation of their events going back a long time.

Pretty cool, dude.

I sometimes miss having a Cadence pedal boat, Reivers. The one you saw me in (and the one you borrowed) is an Escapade, made by Nauticraft in Michigan. My family considers it to be the “party” boat. :-)

Anyway, I'm currently uploading the photos again to my web site. This time it is with a different album “skin” that is supposed to be automatically compatible with either desktop or mobile device viewing.

Let me know how you folks think it works. The “old” style is now at http://lampi.us/mike/PNWORCA-2021-03-27-old-old/album/index.html and the “new” style is at http://lampi.us/mike/PNWORCA-2021-03-27/album/index.html (or will be in maybe 5 or 10 minutes).

Michael,

I like the new album skin, but does that also affect how large the photos are allowed to display? The old version single photo views are currently larger on my computer screen than what I can view with the new version when I click on “full screen”. But after looking a bit, I don't think that matters that much to me. So here is one vote for the new version.

I picked a slightly smaller dimension (1200×1200 vs. 1280×1024) for the new album, as that was a default there. I can recreate the album with the larger dimensions.

Ok, remade the album at 1280×1280.
