Maliko Race 2018

After a couple days of great Kihei runs due to north winds, Maliko race day dawned with a good sized swell and continued wind from the north.

This meant nearly onshore wind with nice big rollers lifting you and allowing runs either to the right off the back of the swells or to the left off the front. There were waves to catch constantly, but the rides were short and the effort required to catch them high.

Michael Owens and Kai Bartlett diced it out for the lead with Michael taking him by just under a minute. I ended up 16th overall and 10th OC1, also winning my age category. All in all a fun but taxing race!

I think the wind is going to shut down tomorrow, so I’m glad to have gotten in a couple good DW paddles and a solid race performance.
