This course features protected waterways on and connecting to the Snohomish River. It would be great for marathon canoe or other flat water boats. There are lots of natural and unnatural points of interest.

This is a cool course. I remember doing the regional marathon canoe champs there many years ago. A great location for flat water (mostly) racing.
A very unique place.
Im planning on it.

Not a Race Recap:

11 paddlers showed up this morning at Langus Park. 6 surfskis, 1 OC-2, a C-1 and a C-2 prepared to test out the course. It was a race-like atmosphere with Paul C charging to the lead, followed by David S and Denise W. Julie and Sue were close behind in the OC-2, along with local Michael (?). Thom P laid down the power in his C-1 and Toby C made the long trek from Orcas Island to join the fun. Michael Lampi had some structural problems with his pedal boat and ended up in a canoe with Steve B.

I hung out at the first turn to make sure everyone stayed on course. By the time I caught back up to the pack it was clear that Paul had decided to paddle the long course option and the group had followed suit. An 8 mile paddle turned into a 13 mile paddle but it was fun to explore all the additional waterways and course options.

The overall impression from all in attendance was that this place is way cool. Look for a an official race announcement in the fall or possibly next spring. Big thanks to Brent Molsberry for the planting the seed for this event.

For the record, if this had been a race, these would have been the results:

Regular Course:

Thom Prichard, C-1

Toby Cooper, HPK

Long Course:

Paul Clement, HPK

Denise Weeks, HPK

David Scherrer, HPK

Julie & Sue, OC2

Michael ??, HPK

Reverse Short Course:

Steve & Michael, C2

There are not any photos of what was not a race at this link. Thanks again to Steve Bennett for lending me the use of the front seat of his canoe!

Thanks, Michael! Now I see what we missed by not taking the first left. Looks lovely.

Thanks, Kevin, for inviting us to this new course and herding us back to the park when we missed the turn. The day was perfect: good weather, nice scenery, great company. Did we have current with us the whole way out to State Route 529? I had pretty good time until that turn, even with a little headwind. My only regret is forgetting my tuna sandwich. The donuts and beer were very tempting, but I had to get Strider safely home and didn’t want to have to pull over for a nap.
